McMaster Sociology Professor Scott Davies featured in Toronto Star
McMaster University sociology professor Scott Davies has been featured in The Toronto Star for leading a study into what is known as the “summer setback” in child literacy development.
Davies, who holds the Ontario Research Chair in Educational Achievement and At-Risk Students, is leading the study into the learning gap created during the summer months in literacy between children from less affluent, less educated families and children from families that are well-off and headed by parents with a post-secondary education. The study, which is funded by Ontario's Literacy and Numeracy Secretariat, is is the largest ever done in Canada.
