Dr. Patrick Deane, President of McMaster University, attended the Faculty of Social Sciences Council meeting to provide an opportunity to discuss his letter “Forward with Integrity”. Faculty, staff, and student representatives were present and engaged with the discussion, both listening intently and raising questions pertaining to Dr. Deane’s letter to the McMaster community. President Deane emphasized the importance of service learning and experiential education as ways of creating global citizens and connecting with the Hamilton community. He also spoke to the importance of rethinking our approach to education in light of our need to continue to deliver high quality education to a growing number of students. McMaster University offers a unique contribution to the push for higher quality learning with its emphasis on integrating research excellence and opportunities with both undergraduate and graduate education. President Deane highlighted Social Sciences as an important faculty to help foster this sort of growth and development for the university.
